Technical Glossary
In WinCC OA SCADA context is used to refer to Oracle database where WinCC OA measurements/data is being stored (copied from Dictionary, Abbreviations, Acronyms and Shortcuts)
SCADA systems are used to monitor and control physical processes involved in industry and infrastructure on a large scale and over long distances.
See WinCC OA
This meeting is taking place on a weekly basis and gathers the group leader, section leaders, the GAO(s) and sometimes external stakeholders.
ICS group committee where technical subjects are presented for discussion and decisions by the group members.
Regular group committee, taking place every 2 weeks
System to access historical data (CERN-wide service)
The TSO is appointed by the Safety Office to fulfill obligations in matters of safety for buildings and premises under his/her responsibility.
CERN-made framework to develop industrial control applications. It deals with the two layers Supervision and Control. UNICOS proposes a method to design and develop the control application which will run in commercial off-the-shelf products (e.g. SCADA and PLCs). The framework employs terminology and models of the ISA-88 standard for batch control systems.
One of the Frameworks developed by the group.
SIMATIC WinCC Open Architecture (OA) is a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and human-machine interface (HMI) system from Siemens. SCADA systems are used to monitor and control physical processes involved in industry and infrastructure on a large scale and over long distances.
BE-ICS provides central support and expertise for this technology, either through local experts or by handling them with ETM.
The ICS group holds the supply contract with Siemens/ETM for WinCC OA for users at CERN and in collaborating institutes. We generate and distribute licenses.
BE-ICS maintains and develop software frameworks: JCOP and UNICOS to provide tools and building blocks on top of WinCC OA.
WinCC OA is the group's standard to implement supervisory layer of controls applications (based on UNICOS)
